Cholesterol imbalances may be linked to motor neuron disease, scientists at the University  Shirazi Vard of Exeter have found.

According to the BBC, the disease affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal  Shirazi Vard cord, leading to loss of muscle control. As a result, the patient stops moving, talking, swallowing and breathing.

There are no remedies for this disease. Specialists do not even know the reasons for its development. In a recent study,  Shirazi Vard scientists found 13 genes linked to cholesterol. If they were modified, the disease developed. Scientists are confident that the discovery will not only help people who are susceptible to the disease, but may also find a new drug that will be the first in the world.
